Back after brief hibernation...

Hi All...Its really been "Long time...No post", for me except for the occasional poetries or comments on other’s posts & believe me I am feeling guilty for that. So before I feel worse at having almost broken my promise to a friend at the very commencement of my stint with this blog, I thought I better gather myself and post something decent. But since I am unable to instantly think of any specific topic to talk about, I’d rather stick to something more familiar & tell u guys what I have been up to these days.

After a whole year at college, studying 20 varied subjects from law to psychology, accounts to MIS, perspective management to economics & so on…and also trying to endure the mediocrity of the typical government attitudes of college authorities, I’m currently sitting at IL&FS office in BKC doing my Summer Internship. Once exams commence, with 10 papers to deal with, I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I say that it seems like a neverrrrrrrrrrrr ending journey with the papers just not seeming to come to an end. Its like one paper gets over & there are 9 to go…4 done…and still 6 to go…even when 8 are done…2 yet to go!!! And then when the last day arrives it feels too exhausted anymore to experience the thrill!!

This time just before my 2nd semester papers began I unfortunately or fortunately had to visit Bangalore for a wedding of close cousin. And even before I could think of the gala time I had there, my exams began. How did I fare is another question altogether!! U’l understand if I say, I’m not waiting for the results this time ;-) And guess what! After exams I landed in Bangalore once again! This time for a bit longer and with a genuine intention of having a ball! But the misery or rather irony of it all was I had much more fun the earlier time I went even with all the tension (I’m lying) of exams.

Now back to Amchi Mumbai and that too at its “sizzling” best! After experiencing a pleasant climate in Blore, I come back to the sweltering heat here! It felt like a torture, back to traveling in the fully crammed trains and jam-packed buses. The onset of rains felt like heaven though, fighting away the scorching heat! It was a great relief getting drenched in the rains rather than coming back home soaking in sweat, after getting baked and roasted in the sun! Then it was birthday time for me! And I spent the whole evening with close friends, bowling and feasting at our favorite joints including Mocha obviously ;)

Vacations done…Birthday gone…It was now high time for my Summer Internship, and I joined IL&FS. & that too with a BANG! I can say that because I somehow managed to ROCK the place the very same day I landed here!! The day I join Sensex experiences the biggest intraday fall. Its all time low! And nosedives by over 800 points! And I begin to get feedback from all friends & acquaintances. One of them even goes on to name me ‘Stock Market Mover n Shaker’! ;-) That’s for my relationship with the exchange and stock market.

Out here though, people are 24x7 involved with the market. It seems that their day commences at 9:55 when market opens for the day and ends at 3:30 when market closes. Buy yeah…they do work before and after that as well! The noise level in the room is a function of the way the market behaves. The energy levels change according to the up’s and down’s in the indices. On days when market plunges badly, the CEO runs around :-) Lunch is had at individual desks while keeping an intense watch on the index and that too as late as “after market hours” as they call it. All personal calls are attended after “market hours”. General discussions are strictly held until “market hours”…At first I found things quite surprising…then I found it irritating…now though I find it amusing.

There are five things that keep me in a cheerful disposition throughout the day and keep me from dozing off. First and most essentially, the work that is absolutely of my aptitude. Dealing with numbers, quick calculations, analysis and decision making regarding credits to be given to clients amounting to lacs & crores of rupees etc…Second, a good PC assigned to me, which thoroughly keeps me entertained when work is not at its peak and permits me to visit blogs & orkut, check mails and do all types of R&D. Third, access to 2-3 phone lines (Remember I’m a part of Risk management team) enabling me to catch up with cousins and friends. Fourth, the ppl sitting exactly adjacent to me. One of who is slightly senior but very down to earth and extra generous in parting with learnings to me in response to most of my silly questions. The other who’s relatively new in this company with barely 4 months experience here. The funny part was when I began my stint of having innumerable cups of tomato soups from the coffee machine, through the day. In one of my earliest conversations with her I happened to make a mention of it. Her response was “Really? Kya baat hai! Tomato soup to mera favorite hai! Mujhe to pata hi nahin tha. Mera 4 months waste ho gaya idhar!!! Chalo ab pata chal gaya. Aaj se har din atleast 2 cup dikhega aapko yahan!” :-)) She’s one of the rare ppl here who doesn’t find doing some TP a crime! Fifth, I luckily have a good view outside the huge window ahead of me where I can see more than a dozen planes flying during the day cutting the clear blue skies. The view enhances manifold when it rains :-))

And now with college reopening soon and my project report ready, I’m thinking of concluding my Summers by the end of this week which would incidently be great news to my cousin who’s come from Blore to spend here vacations here! With this I’m concluding my post too! Yeah…Finally! :-) Apologies if its too detailed but trust me its still not exhaustive! :-) Tc! Have a great time ahead guys!!

F A M I L Y

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
"Oh excuse me please" was my reply.

He said, "Please excuse me too;
I wasn't watching for you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said goodbye.

But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,
God's still small voice came to me and said,

"While dealing with a stranger,
common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."

By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.

"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree.

I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."

I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way."
He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay.
I love you anyway."

I said, "Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

FAMILY
Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company
that we are working for could easily replace us in
a matter of days.
But the family we left behind will feel the loss
for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more
into work than into our own family,
an unwise investment indeed,
don't you think?
So what is behind the story?

Do you know what the word FAMILY means?
FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU
